Materials: 925 sterling silver and 18k gold plating

Our rings and hand chains are 925 sterling silver with 18k gold plating and cubic zirconia. Here is what each material means, in plain words.
We believe you should know exactly what you are wearing, so we only tell you what we can stand behind.
What 925 sterling silver means
The base of every piece is 925 sterling silver: an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, which make it strong enough to be worn every day. Silver on its own would be too soft for jewellery. The number 925 is the silver content in thousandths.
What 18k gold-plated means
Our pieces are 18k gold-plated: a thin 18k gold plating is applied over the sterling silver. It gives the collection its warm colour at an accessible price.
Plating is a surface layer: like all plated jewellery, it wears gradually with time and friction. Our care guide explains how to keep it beautiful for longer.
Two rings, Yellow Lady and Chamilla, combine 18k gold-plated bands with rhodium-plated bands, for a bright silver tone.
What cubic zirconia is
The clear stones in our pieces are cubic zirconia: a lab-created crystal, cut to catch the light like dew on a petal. You will find it in pavé settings (many small stones set close together), in marquise shapes (long, pointed ovals, as in Petal No. 1, Chrissy and Dahlia) and as a single stone (as in Jade).
Zahra has no stones.
What demi-fine jewellery means
Demi-fine jewellery sits between fashion jewellery and fine jewellery: a precious metal base, here 925 sterling silver, with a finish such as 18k gold plating, at a price made for every day. Every Azhar piece is demi-fine.
Skin and allergies
Our pieces are nickel-free and hypoallergenic. If you have a specific metal allergy, write to info@azharjewels.com before buying: we will share the supplier information we have for the piece you like.
Water and colour
The 18k gold plating is water-resistant and resistant to colour change. It is still a thin plating: salt water, chlorine, perfume and cosmetics wear it faster. Take your pieces off before swimming in the sea or the pool, and let perfume dry before you put them on. Our care guide has the rest.
Design and production
Azhar is Italian design. The manufacturer of the pieces we sell is Azhar Jewels, Malta, info@azharjewels.com. The full manufacturer details and our product safety information are in our Legal notice.
